Thinking Big About The Cross

If you lived in a village in France during either World War, your attention would be riveted on the war as it related to where you were. How close is the fighting? Are you in danger of being bombed or invaded? How is the food supply? If you have to evacuate, where will you go?…

Where God is Leading Us

. . . On the day He comes to be glorified in His holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed.  (2 Thessalonians 1:10) We now know that in the first three years of a newborn’s life, their brain is developing at warp speed. Their brain makes over a million neural connections each ____________…

Jesus, John and Mary

“Here is your son” (v. 26), Jesus said to His mother. In contrast to Pilate’s abdication of his responsibility to Jesus and justice (“Here is the man” – v. 5, “Here is your king” – v. 14), Christ took control regarding His mother’s care. It’s an interesting situation we don’t know as much about as…

When Moses took his sandals off before God, did the desert sand burn his feet? Was there smoke from the bush and if so, did it fill his nostrils or cause his eyes to tear? Was the wind blowing that day? If it was important for us to know any of these things, we would have been told. What is important was Moses had an encounter with the living God—the creator and sustainer of everything that is, the One who identified Himself as “I AM WHO I AM.”

This book is an invitation to take off our sandals and open our hearts and minds to the wonder, majesty, and mystery of God Almighty. Some of these pieces are simple and straightforward, while others will prod you to think a little more. My hope for all of them is simply to open a few windows, let some fresh air in, and improve our view. May God bless you richly and deeply as you seek to know Him more fully and walk with Him more closely.

Time, life, and opportunity all intersect in the special moment known as today. If experience teaches us anything, it’s that life isn’t forever and can at times be quite fragile. We can be here one day and gone the next. Learning to live within a day should be the goal of us all. This Is The Day is a walk through the holy ground of Scripture with the purpose of exploring what it means to live within a day for Jesus. It is an excellent resource for personal or classroom use with questions at the end of the book.

The Lord’s Prayer. The model prayer. The Pater Noster. Most of us are familiar with at least one of these ways of referring to the prayer Jesus gave His disciples (Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:2-4). But what else do we know about it? If you could crack the prayer open like a pecan or a walnut—what would you find inside? It’s
the purpose of this little book to explore that question.

A disclaimer—the purpose of Praying in the Reign is not to prod you into praying more often or with greater intensity (although that could be a good thing). Of course, it does have something to say about prayer, but that’s not its main thrust either. What it does seek to do is to reach out and grab you in regard to the glory of our Father and the greatness of His kingdom. It seeks to help you understand more of what it means to allow Him to rule in your lives. Available at 21st Century Christian and Spiritbuilding Publishing.

If you have started Revelation a time or two but were unable to gain the traction needed to see it through to the end, The Thrill of Hope can help. An entry level look at the book of Revelation that puts the book in terms you can understand. There are devotional pieces that explain and develop its major themes, as well as FAQ sections that deal with specific issues from each portion of the book. You’ll also find an emphasis on what Revelation says to disciples today. No one can make the book easy, but I think you’ll find The Thrill of Hope to make Revelation easier.

An invasion of locusts, three days in a huge fish, a good marriage gone bad–these are just a few of the things you’ll find in the eighth century prophets (Hosea, Joel, Amos, Jonah and Micah). They deal with religious formalism, oppression of the poor, and what God really wants from His people. Most of all, they reveal a God who is not willing to give up on His purposes for them or the rest of the world.

Known Intimately Loved Ultimately is the first volume of a two volume work on what Israel and the early church referred to as the Twelve Prophets. We know them as the Minor Prophets and they have some major truths for our lives today. This book can help you explore their richness and depth. Available through 21st Century Christian and Spiritbuilding Publishers.

From Habakkuk’s writing on the wall, to Zechariah’s mysterious visions, to Malachi’s prophecies about John and Jesus—the seven prophets of the Babylonian period (and beyond) are utterly engaging. They leave us with an unforgettable portrait of a passionate Father. Even when Israel and Judah detach themselves from Yahweh, He continues to pursue them. He loves them enough to do whatever needs to be done to bring them back to Him.

This book concludes the study of The Twelve that began in volume 1 with a look at the books of Nahum, Zephaniah, Habakkuk, Obadiah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi.
